PASS PLUS COURSE

Passing your test is a brilliant achievement, but the first few months of driving independently are when confidence, judgement and real-world experience matter most, which is why StreetSafe’s Pass Plus course helps newly qualified drivers build safer habits by covering higher-risk situations such as motorways, night driving, rural roads, dual carriageways and poor weather.

Designed to create safer, calmer and more confident drivers, the course also gives parents and guardians extra peace of mind as new drivers begin driving on their own.

Completing Pass Plus may reduce insurance costs with some insurers, and eligible Hampshire drivers can currently receive £75 towards the cost from Hampshire County Council.

Pass Plus is a minimum 6-hour course covering six key driving modules.

PASS PLUS COURSE SCHEDULE

1. TOWN & CITY DRIVING

Develop confidence in busy everyday driving situations, including junctions, roundabouts, pedestrians, cyclists, busier traffic and decision-making under pressure.

FOCUS:

Hazard awareness, safe positioning and calm decision-making.

2. ALL-WEATHER DRIVING

Learn how to adapt to rain, fog, ice, spray, low sun and poor visibility, including how weather affects stopping distances, grip and control.

FOCUS

Adjusting speed, space and judgement to suit the conditions.

3. RURAL ROADS

Build experience on country roads, narrow lanes, bends, hidden junctions and roads where drivers may meet animals, cyclists, horse riders or slow-moving vehicles.

FOCUS

Safe speed choice, reading the road ahead and managing unexpected hazards.

4. NIGHT DRIVING

Improve confidence when driving after dark, including dealing with reduced visibility, glare from headlights and judging speed and distance at night.

FOCUS

Visibility, anticipation and safe control in the dark.

5. DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS

Practise joining and leaving faster roads, lane discipline, overtaking, mirror checks and keeping safe following distances.

FOCUS

Confident lane planning, safe overtaking and space management.

6. MOTORWAY DRIVING

Gain experience with motorway driving, including slip roads, lane changes, smart motorways where relevant, service areas, breakdown awareness and longer journey planning.

FOCUS

Confidence at higher speeds, safe decision-making and real-world readiness.

AFTER THE COURSE

There is no final test for Pass Plus. Drivers are assessed throughout the course and must reach the required standard in each module.

At the end of the course, StreetSafe can provide clear feedback to the student and, where requested, parents or guardians. This helps everyone understand the driver’s progress, strengths and next steps for safer independent driving.
