Motorway driving can feel daunting for new drivers, but with the right guidance it becomes a safe, calm and confident part of everyday driving. StreetSafe Motorway Lessons are designed to help students build real-world confidence beyond the driving test, covering higher-speed driving, joining and leaving motorways, lane discipline, safe overtaking, smart motorway awareness and dealing with busy traffic.

With expert support, clear feedback and a strong focus on safety, these lessons give students the skills to drive independently while offering extra peace of mind for parents and guardians.

RECOMMENDED MOTORWAY LESSON SCHEDULE

LESSON 1: MOTORWAY CONFIDENCE & SAFETY BASICS

FOCUS:

Preparing the student for motorway driving.

INCLUDES:

Understanding motorway signs, lanes and speed limits
Safe following distances at higher speeds
Planning ahead and reading the road early
Building confidence before joining the motorway

LESSON 2: JOINING, LANE DISCIPLINE & EXITING

FOCUS:

Safely entering, driving on and leaving the motorway.

INCLUDES:

Using slip roads correctly
Matching speed safely when joining
Staying in the correct lane
Safe exits and early positioning

LESSON 3: OVERTAKING & HIGHER-SPEED DECISION MAKING

FOCUS:

Building safe judgement at motorway speeds.

INCLUDES:

When and how to overtake safely
Checking mirrors and blind spots effectively
Avoiding unnecessary lane changes
Managing faster-moving traffic confidently

LESSON 4: SMART MOTORWAYS, BUSY TRAFFIC & REARL-WORLD SCENARIOS

FOCUS:

Handling more challenging motorway situations.

INCLUDES:

Understanding variable speed limits
Responding to lane closures and overhead signs
Driving safely in heavy traffic
What to do in an emergency or breakdown

OPTIONAL ADD-ON: LONGER MOTORWAY JOURNEY

A longer session can be added for students who want extra experience on a real journey, helping them practise route planning, service station stops, fatigue awareness and independent motorway driving.
